Ā» Books on his nightstand: I’m just now finishing up the third book in the Stieg Larsson [Millennium] trilogy—I get a kick out of those. On the heavier side, I’m reading Examined Lives by James Miller.

Ā» iPod artists on repeat: I’m a rock ’n’ roll junkie, and I just came back from Bonnaroo. I love Buffalo Springfield. As for newer music, I really like Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, Mumford & Sons, the Decemberists and Widespread Panic.

Ā» Restaurants of the hour: I really like Sola, Blackfish, Verdad—and I’ve recently been popping into Matador. It reminds me of a version of Verdad.

Ā» Personal hero: The one I most admire has to be Marcus Aurelius, one of the good emperors of Rome and a Stoic philosopher.

Ā» One thing he knows for sure: Life is short, so take advantage of every moment.

Ā» Very own vici: Raising three wonderful daughters.

Ā» Zen destination: We have a home in St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands that’s in the middle of a national park.
