» Books on his nightstand: I’m just now finishing up the third book in the Stieg Larsson [Millennium] trilogy—I get a kick out of those. On the heavier side, I’m reading Examined Lives by James Miller.
» iPod artists on repeat: I’m a rock ’n’ roll junkie, and I just came back from Bonnaroo. I love Buffalo Springfield. As for newer music, I really like Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, Mumford & Sons, the Decemberists and Widespread Panic.
» Restaurants of the hour: I really like Sola, Blackfish, Verdad—and I’ve recently been popping into Matador. It reminds me of a version of Verdad.

» Zen destination: We have a home in St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands that’s in the middle of a national park.
» If he had an extra hour each day, he would: Cross things off my bucket list. I was supposed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro last year, but I severed a tendon.
» Life view: chance or fate? I don’t view life as being driven by fate or being arbitrary. Life is what you make it.
» Pet peeve: Being judgmental.
» Most marked characteristic: Balance.
» Quality he admires most in others: Compassion.
» Mantra: Make every day the best it can be.
