Q&A: Interior Designer Michelle Gage

The Villanova-based designer shares her favorite home trends.

Personal decorating style: Eclectic, colorful, playful and filled with vintage charm.

Favorite room in her house: My living room. It’s filled with my favorite flea-market finds.

Design advice: Wallpaper your powder room. It’s an affordable way to get a fun pop of print and color in an unexpected place.

Color she couldn’t design without: Blue. I love how it can be a neutral and a color pop.

Design elements she incorporates into a space: Anything vintage, because it adds a lot of character and interest. I like to utilize it in small touches.

Favorite design trend of the moment: I love everything about jewel-toned velvet sofas. They add such richness. They look sophisticated, and it’s a nice way to introduce color in an unexpected fashion.

Her definition of good taste: A well-designed room includes some character. Any room needs some art and a curated assortment of accessories. If your room looks like you’ve collected items over time, you’re golden.

Best part of her job: I love that my job forces me to constantly seek inspiration. I have to stay on top of design trends and keep up with what’s new. I also love helping clients realize their home’s potential. Your home should be a reflection of your personality, featuring items that are functional and ones that have meaning to you.
