Ashley McEvoy likes to say she’s a marketer by trade. But at Johnson & Johnson, she’s also learned to be an exceptional leader. As company group chairman for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, the Berwyn resident leads one of the fastest-growing divisions of a global medical device segment best known for its market-leading Acuvue contact lenses.
During her 17 years with J&J, McEvoy has worked with some of the company’s most powerful brands, including Tylenol. She’s served in marketing and sales roles and has led both domestic and global businesses. “Each step of the way, I’ve learned about strategy, execution, financial management and the importance of customer focus,” says McEvoy.
On top of her demanding career, McEvoy is also a mother of five children—an impressive feat of multitasking that caught the attention of Working Mother magazine, which named her one of its 2012 Mothers of the Year. “It was an honor and an opportunity to call attention to the importance of the work-life balance,” says McEvoy. “I have the good fortune of working for a company that allows me to bring my whole self to work.”
As a mom and a role model, McEvoy gives every one of her kids the same advice when it comes to their future careers. “Whatever your business or field, treat everyone like a customer,” she says. “The faster you gain insight, the more value you can create.”
