The GM of the upscale Delaware County institution shares how his fashion sense has evolved and names the style mistakes every guy should avoid.

Known for its custom suiting and upscale casual wear, Hassis Men’s Shop has been a Delaware County go-to since 1968. Peter Marziano started working there in 1979, when he was a sophomore at Villanova University. “I call myself a clothing psychologist,” he says. “Men tell me their style-related hopes and goals, and we figure out what they need. Then we make it happen.”

MEN’S MOST COMMON FASHION MISTAKES: Wearing outdated styles. Pleated pants are a thing of the past, as are pant cuffs. Fit is another problem. Men’s coat lengths are often too long because shirts are now cut slimmer. A 42 regular from 10 years ago is an inch shorter today. What used to be 20 is now an 18.

TRENDY COLORS AND PATTERNS: Windowpanes are in style. Pinstripes are not. If men buy a blue blazer, it’s brighter than navy or has a pattern.

HOTTEST ACCESSORY: The pocket square. Even before the pandemic, a hip guy wears a suit, no tie and a pocket square. If you’re new to pocket squares, start with one that’s relatively simple and can transfer to different coats.

HOW HIS STYLE EVOLVED: I wear a suit and tie every day, and that hasn’t changed. But now I wear elevated sportswear—like fitted jeans—that reflects today’s styles.
