The scoop: This combination 1734 Quaker farmhouse and 1815 Georgian manor has quite an interesting history, including a British occupation following the 1777 Battle of the Brandywine, and its use as a Civil War infirmary and safe house for the Underground Railroad. Adjacent to the seven-guestroom main house are seven cottages, five of which are family- and pet-friendly. Next door is the owners’ 5-acre vineyard and tasting room in a converted 18th-century barn.
Amenities: Full breakfast and a welcome basket for pets. Many of the accommodations have wood or gas fireplaces. The property has a pond, pool, hot tub, golf chipping range, plus disc golf and bocce ball courts.
Don’t miss: Book a special Wine Weekend package, which includes two passes to seven participating wineries.
