Patti Hollenback, Nurse Navigator, Crozer-Keystone Cancer Program

Nominated by Mary Wascavage, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Delaware County Memorial Hospital

Everyone at risk of developing cancer should be screened. That’s Patti Hollenback’s job—and her personal mission. She routinely visits legislators in Washington, D.C., and Harrisburg to educate them about the benefits of preventative cancer screening.

Hollenback lobbies for legislation, proclamations and research funding. As part of the Grassroots Action Committee for the national advocacy group Fight Colorectal Cancer, she helps organize its annual Call-on Congress training, serving as a mentor for other advocates.

Hollenback’s passion comes from a personal place. Her husband, Harry, died of colorectal cancer at age 50. Her aunt and two uncles died of lung cancer, as did her best friend. “It’s terribly sad, but I have made my passion my career,” she says. “Now, it’s about saving lives.”
