Now Open in Haverford: White Dog Cafe

The new spot marks the restaurant’s third location.

It’s official: On Friday, May 15, White Dog Cafe opened its third location in Haverford Square. This location continues White Dog’s long history and business practices of using environmentally sustainable, humanely raised animals and local foods from farms within 50 miles.

Owner Marty Grims collaborated with Balongue Design and David Semerjian Builders, who also worked on White Dog Cafe in Wayne, which opened in 2010, and the recent renovation and redesign at the original Philadelphia outpost in 2014.

Located in the former Dujour Market, White Dog Cafe Haverford transformed the footprint and exterior creating the intimate feeling of dining in an upscale home.

In keeping with White Dog’s theme, two large iron dogs greet you at the entrance with cafe tables and colorful window boxes. The Den and Bar feature warm wood-paneled millwork that is welcoming with a masculine, vintage charm.

The Kitchen is reminiscent of a sophisticated Pennsylvania farmhouse with a whimsical color palette and combination of light millwork detailing, furniture and bright fabrics. Local Philadelphia artist Jay McClellan was commissioned to accent this space with bold abstract dog portraits.

The Living Room walls are clad with tea-stained mirrors and millwork and there is plenty of plush comfortable seating. Large three dimensional carved dog busts line the walls and stand guard over guests. Plants and floral designs were created by Inspired Gardens’ Basia Kerner, a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Award recipient.

Executive Chef Zach Grainda and Executive General Manager Tamas Szene oversee all three of White Dog’s locations with Chef Mike Selser leading the kitchen in Haverford.
