A South of the Border revolution has come to Lancaster Avenue, bringing with it plenty of tacos. Three new Mexican restaurants, Pipeline Taco, El Limon, and Xolo Tacos, have opened within the span of a month in Wayne and Bryn Mawr.
Pipeline Taco: Jeff Wallin and Adam Gottlieb, first-time restaurateurs, are slinging six healthy versions of traditional tacos, served in gluten-free soft corn tortillas (flour tortillas are also available). Varieties include ground beef, tempura or grilled fish, grilled shrimp, mojo chicken, kalua pork, and the vegetarian-friendly sweet potato and kale. For those who don’t have tacos on their taste buds, all options can be served as burritos, rice bowls, or as salads. Starters include nachos, and chips with fresh salsa or guacamole. Organic smoothies are also on the menu. 165 E. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, (610) 225-8226
Xolo Tacos: The husband-and-wife team of Carlos and Hayley Fink have turned the former Fuji Mountain into a stylish taqueria that will focus on what they call “legitimate tacos” and other menu items using traditional, time-honored Mexican recipes. Adding to the fun, the sushi counter has been transformed into a full service bar specializing in tequilas. We hear that there will be 30 varieties offered. Chef Alfredo Aguilar, who is also chef-owner of Las Cazuelas in Northern Liberties, will be in the kitchen. In addition to tacos, expect a menu of guacamole prepared tableside, queso fundido, enchiladas, soups, burritos, fajitas, tortas and housemade desserts like flan. 14 N. Merion Ave., Bryn Mawr, (610) 527-7777
El Limon: After opening their fourth outpost in June in Ardmore, cousins Isaias Dominguez and Manuel Ruiz surprised Main Liners with the opening of their fifth taco joint in Bryn Mawr. Located in the former Tres Guppy’s, the super casual concept serves up authentic Mexican eats at a reasonable price. El Limon is BYOB and will provide margarita mixers for those who bring their own tequila. 845 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, (484) 222-6928
