Since joining the West Chester-based home-shopping giant QVC as an associate buyer in 1991, Mary Campbell has held several positions over the years. In her current role, she and her team must ensure that its many selling platforms deliver a seamless, user-friendly experience for millions of shoppers around the world.
What are your strongest leadership characteristics?
I strive for honesty and transparency in order to build real, trust-based relationships with my teams and my peers. It’s also a priority for me to create a positive and motivating environment. I encourage those around me to trust their instincts and take risks.
What has been your biggest challenge?
In 2012, I made the greatest shift of my career, moving from a merchandising leadership role to leading commerce platforms teams. I didn’t have that same depth of knowledge and confidence. I had to get comfortable with the idea that, for a period of time, I would be largely focused on learning versus decision making. From there, I was able to fearlessly embrace the chance to gain a deeper perspective about the business. This afforded me the incredible opportunity to learn from, and build trust, with my new team.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the accomplishments of my team. Having the opportunity to develop the next level of leaders has been my most fulfilling experience.
