The beloved and quirky romantic comedy Mallrats is making a comeback 20 years after its original release. The best part? It’s coming to one of the Main Line’s most beloved landmarks—the Exton Square Mall.
Director Kevin Smith made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter: “We found our MALL, y’all! This January, @ExtonSquareMall in Exton, PA will star #Mallrats 2! Thanks, StarStream! #MR2.”

“PREIT is excited at the opportunity for one of our Philly area malls to be the setting for this movie. If all goes according to plan, filming will start at Exton Square in January,” according to a statement issued by the company. “We are thrilled at the prospect of hosting Kevin Smith, the actors and crew, helping to bring jobs to the area, and creating social media and onsite events to celebrate the partnership.”
While the film production company StarStream confirmed the location for the movie, no representative was available for further comment.
Smith had previously tweeted that the Granite Run Mall could be the filming location for the sequel. An issue between the mall’s parent company BET Investments and “the movie people,” as BET’s president Michael Markman previously told the Delco Times, put an end to that.
Regardless of where on the Main Line the movie ends up filming, we’re happy to have them.
