BÉKE BEAU
Makeup artist, Newtown Square
Favorite designers: I’m attracted to designers who mix color and patterns imaginatively, like Etro and Custo Barcelona. On the other hand, I was a professional rock singer, and the utilitarian ex-New Yorker in me is attracted to cool, interesting shapes like those from Alexander McQueen and Helmut Lang.
Fall trends she’s looking forward to: I’m not big on trends, but who doesn’t look forward to a new sweater and boots?
She’s a: Clotheshorse. I keep track of all of my purchases, so this is based on concrete data.
Style icon: I usually say “Keith Partridge,” because I love high-waisted pants and collared shirts. As a make-up artist, wearing white is out of the question, so I’m now channeling Tabatha Coffey. She does black so well.
Personal style: Evolved rocker with classic sensibilities.
Go-to casual outfit for a typical day out: I get to dress casually most of the time, so it’s skinny jeans or pants, boots or flats, the ever-present striped T-shirt or a fitted pullover.
Go-to outfit for a night out in the city: Vince graphic silk tunic, leggings and my YSL Tribute sandals.
Favorite splurges: A magnificent wool coat and a classic boot with a stylish twist. Those things make an outfit.
Favorite items in her closet: Theory sandals I bought years ago at Saks and a black couture coat I snagged at Daffy’s (when it was good) in Herald Square.
Biggest fashion risk: You’re looking at it. I just went platinum after many years of having red hair. It changes everything.
Must-read fashion blogs: Advanced Style. Ari Seth Cohen has put older, super-stylish women on the map.
She shops at: Skirt in Bryn Mawr, Anthropologie and consignment shops like Petunia’s in Ardmore, and Yesterday’s in Berwyn. You’ll also find me in the “Runway” section of T.J. Maxx in St. Davids … a lot.
