With Clark Gilbert’s Gemelli now gone from its quaint neighborhood spot in Narberth, friend and fellow chef John Wolferth (formerly of Ardmore’s La Parisienne and Sola in Bryn Mawr) has taken over and made the place his own. Aperto is a charming BYO serving Mediterranean- and European-influenced cuisine. Gilbert, meanwhile, has moved a revamped version of Gemelli to a busier locale on Main Street in Manayunk. The new place has a liquor license, plus lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. He’s added more seating, too.
After some setbacks and the usual headaches that come with opening a restaurant, John Brandt-Lee’s much-anticipated Downingtown venture, Avalon Pasta Bistro, opened last month. The two-story BYO features a tasty homemade pasta, along with a station for tableside preparations. Brandt-Lee is also offering complimentary sangria and beer on tap.
Joining the flurry of new openings, Redhound Grille (in the Big Easy’s former digs on Paoli Pike in Paoli) offers American food with a twist. Most of the ingredients are made in-house by chef Shane Magee.
Lastly, April Lisante and Christian Gatti have closed their two-year-old Bala Cynwyd eatery, Avril.
