Land of the Lost
You may have seen pink elephants before, but we’re betting you’ve never seen a pink dolphin. And if you miss Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes & Other Riches, opening this month at the Academy of Natural Sciences, you never will. Running June 2-Dec. 31, the exhibit celebrates the rich biodiversity of the world’s largest river with multimedia presentations, interactive demonstrations, live aquariums and a real-life riverboat. Voyage showcases such distinctly Amazonian creatures as the piranha, anaconda and the mysterious pink dolphin. Created by the Miami Museum of Science, the traveling exhibit was inspired in part by artist Ray Troll, whose imaginative artwork provides the show’s distinct visual identity, with his mural depicting over 125 Amazonian species serving as a bold centerpiece. Troll will be there opening day to greet the first visitors to embark on this stunning South American journey. 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia. Call (215) 299-1000 or visit ansp.org.

Paddle Power
At the ninth annual Schuylkill River Sojourn June 2-8, more than 100 participants will form a vibrant armada of kayaks and canoes. Starting at the Schuylkill Haven Island Park, many paddlers attempt 15 miles a day to make the entire 113-mile journey to Philadelphia’s Boathouse Row. Some participants will finish; others will spend their days exploring the river. Regardless, there’s a little bit of everything in store, including unexpected obstacles and conditions. But not to worry: Guides will be on-hand to ensure your safety and offer insight. Sponsored by the non-profit Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area, the week-long event offers activities for people of every age. Evening entertainment (open to the public) includes music, storytelling, campfires and more. Visit schuylkillriver.org/sojourn or call (484) 945-0200.
