Unlike many nonprofts, Riverbend Environmental Education Center wasn’t supported by an endowment. That left the organization lurching from one year to the next, desperate for donations to fund its uncertain future.
To the rescue came Ed Snider, chairman of Comcast Spectacor and, at the time, a resident of Lower Merion Township. Thanks to his grant, Riverbend had money for capital investments. Bachman seized the opportunity to revitalize the board of directors. She also created the summer camps that are now thriving and sold out every summer.
Under Bachman’s stewardship, the organization built a 300-square-foot greenhouse that is used for educational purposes. “Now that we’re financially stable, Riverbend has unlimited potential,” she says.
