The TV host and contributor for Sunday Times, Fox 29 and The CW’s RI Show draws fashion inspiration from her experiences.
Her Style: Bold, colorful and fabulous—with a touch of quirky.
Her Fashion Roots: My mother was stylish growing up in old Shanghai. I used to try on her embroidered silk qipao Chinese dresses when I was a little girl. As a teenager, I won an American Idol-style TV singing contest in Taiwan, which introduced a shy, simple girl to life on television in Thailand, Hong Kong, South Africa and China, before returning to my birthplace in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
Style Motivation: From reporting on the Paris Fashion Week runway to the Oscars red carpet, I love seeing how an outfit has the power to transform and elevate a person. I’m captivated by flowing fabrics, textures and especially beadwork. Doja Cat in that all-red Schiaparelli head-to-toe look adorned with red body paint and 30,000 Swarovski crystals was drop-dead wow at Paris Haute Couture Week 2023.
Indispensable Wardrobe Item: My little Louis Vuitton Alma BB purse in red/orange patent leather. It’s a little burst of energy that can go from day to night and looks so good with everything.
Favorite Places to Shop: Van Cleve Bridal & Evening Wear in Paoli, which has a huge selection of cocktail dresses, gowns and hats; Boyds in Wayne for eclectic collections; Main Line Fashionista in Paoli for fun looks at affordable prices; Rachelle Boutique and Designer Consignment in Bryn Mawr for luxury consignment; and Conrad Booker, who has interior design clients on the Main Line but also creates one-of-a-kind designer outfits.
Fashion Icon: Jennifer Lopez. In my work, I’ve had several opportunities to witness J. Lo’s style evolution up close.
Best Fashion Find: The vintage Chanel purse I found at the garage sale of a Thai celebrity who was downsizing. I’ve seen a similar purse online for at least 50 times the price.
Indispensable Accessory: My Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama sunglasses.
Favorite Fragrance: Tom Ford Noir.
Fashion No-No: Showing too much skin.
Why Fashion Matters: Everything from sustainable fashion and creative expression to 3D and AI design technology defines who we are, what we believe in and what the future holds.
