Jasper’s Backyard has been a welcome hangout in trendy Conshohocken since its opening last summer. Owners Mike and Kelly Sloane gutted the former Casmar Cafe to orchestrate this lively and casual spot. The juxtaposition of rustic-chic and industrial décor sets the tone, complete with Edison chandeliers, natural wood accents, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, and a shellacked floor of pennies.
Exposed beams and a second-story loft lend an airy feel. The deck and garage-anchored backyard are ideal for alfresco mirth and live bands on Thursdays.
Executive chef Scott Simmers, who mans the scratch kitchen, puts the menu “where the ocean meets the desert, with a distinct hint of Asian flair.” Lunch and dinner dishes include solid takes on salads, tacos and burgers, plus exceptional entrées like chipotle-marinated mahi, seared tuna and noodles, and a melt-in-your-mouth braised short rib atop truffle whipped potatoes. The signature Conshy Crab Fries are full of lump crab and topped with Mornay sauce. Be sure to try the Saturday-brunch chicken and waffles, and the in-house desserts, too.
Two bars serve crafted cocktails, diverse wines and local taps—Conshohocken Brewing Company, Levante Brewing Company and Stickman Brews—providing a pleasant cohabitation for urban professionals, hipsters and families.
