It’s Official: Wawa is America’s Favorite Sandwich Shop

What’s your favorite menu item?

In a year of historic national titles for the greater Philadelphia area, the region has notched yet another win—albeit off the field or court.

According to an annual survey conducted by customer experience research firm Market Force Information, Wawa was voted the best quick-service sandwich shop in the United States. Not only is this the first time the Media-based chain has earned the top spot, it is also the first convenience store to do so.

Wawa beat out larger reaching chains like Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy John’s and Panera Bread for the title, amassing a score of 64 percent for its composite loyalty index.

Here is the full ranking:

  • Wawa: 64 percent
  • Firehouse Subs: 62 percent
  • Jersey Mike’s: 59 percent
  • Jimmy John’s: 58 percent
  • Jason’s Deli: 57 percent
  • McAlister’s Deli: 57 percent
  • Panera Bread: 54 percent
  • Subway: 45 percent
  • Arby’s: 42 percent

Wawa is much smaller compared to its competitors. The growing convenience store, which has been around in its current form since 1964, has more than 750 stores, while Jimmy John’s and Panera Bread have more than 2,000.

MFI compiled the data online by polling more than 11,000 consumers, asking them to rank their favorite burger, sandwich, Mexican, pizza and chicken quick service stores. The survey also asked consumers to rate the chains on specific merits like food quality, curb appeal, overall cleanliness and value for money spent, for which Wawa ranked highest.

Take that, Sheetz.
