In the Drink

Paint the night red, white or pink.

Coming up with a hostess gift can be a real challenge—especially this time of year, when there’s always an excuse to party. May we present Paradocx Vineyards’ wine in a can. Granted, the packaging and concept may be a bit too down-home for some tastes. But for most summertime barbecues and picnics, it ought to be perfect. Varieties include “Whitewash,” “Barn Red” and a summer-only “Pail Pink.” The white and the red are medium bodied, so they’re just right for grilled foods, spicy salsas and robust desserts. With its soft floral aroma and hints of red berries, the pink makes a refreshing starter cocktail. For something more festive, add club soda, Pellegrino or Perrier, plus a few raspberries, pomegranate seeds or blueberries. Each 3-liter can is $34.99 and equals about four bottles of wine, or 18 glasses. Paradocx is located at 1833 Flint Hill Road in Landenberg. Or stop by the tasting room at the Shoppes at Longwood Village in Kennett Square.
