» In with the Old: More than 50 of the nation’s most prominent dealers and fine art galleries will be on hand for the 48th annual Philadelphia Antiques Show April 18-21 at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at Pier One in the Navy Yard. This year’s featured exhibit, Patriots and Presidents: Philadelphia Portrait Miniatures, 1760-1860, spotlights a century’s worth of portrait miniatures. Subjects include George and Martha Washington, James and Dolley Madison, and Benjamin Franklin. Local participants include Villanova’s Elinor Gordon, West Chester’s H.L. Chalfant Antiques, Downingtown’s Philip H. Bradley Co., and Bryn Mawr’s Diana Bittel Antiques. Tour the show from an insider’s perspective with the knowledgeable Park House Guides. And on April 19, get an earful from famed interior designer Carleton Varney, guest lecturer at the show’s brunch. President of Dorothy Draper & Co. in New York, Varney is responsible for the restoration of the Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla., and the Ashland and Dromoland castles in Ireland.
