Ninety years in business is certainly something to celebrate, and Zakian Rug Cleaning is doing so in a big way this month. July 9-17, owner Bob Zakian is flashing back to 1923, when his grandparents charged 22 cents per square foot for hand washing, compared to $2.25 per square foot today. For every client that gets a rug cleaned at full price during that week, Zakian will charge the 22-cent rate for the second one. That’s 90 percent off. “I’d like to clean every rug for 22 cents, but that would probably make 2013 our final year in business,” laughs Zakian.
The western suburbs have been an essential part of the company’s success throughout its history. “We’ve been fortunate to have a loyal stable of customers,” says Zakian, pointing out that Main Liners count on him for cleaning, repairs and restoration. “This is a fun business because people’s rugs really mean something to them. We want to make people happy.”
Zakian’s Philadelphia showroom features handmade and machine-made Oriental rugs, along with wall-to-wall carpeting, area rugs and hardwoods.
