FRONTLINE: Shop Talk

City Duds

CITY DUDS: Oh, were we excited when the Apple Computer store and Blue Tulip opened last year in Suburban Square. But that pales in comparison to the buzz surrounding Urban Outfitters’ recent arrival. Housed in a new building across the street from the Farmers’ Market and Trader Joe’s, UO resembles a colossal warehouse inside—one that just happens to be filled with hip clothing and accessories for men and women. T-shirts feature an ever-changing array of slogans and graphics, and the impressive denim collection includes something for every shape and size, from throwback Levi’s to the modern 7 for all Mankind line. And because accessories do make the outfit, UO is stocked with tons of extras, including costume jewelry, oversized purses, even Vans sneakers (yes, more than a few people out there are still wearing them). And if you’re looking for an unusual gift, you’ve come to the right place. The store’s book selection spans all obsessions and subject matter, from the Star Wars Cookbook II to more risqué titles. Still, if you’re a fan of the UO store in King of Prussia, you might be disappointed to learn that the Ardmore version doesn’t have nearly the selection of items for the home. But, hey, at least you don’t have to battle 202 traffic to get your funky fix anymore.
