Steve Carell’s John du Pont coaches Channing Tatum’s Mark Schultz

Our prediction for Foxcatcher came true this morning. The critically acclaimed film was nominated for five Academy Awards. It also earned three Golden Globe nominations.
Foxcatcher’s plot centers around the murderous exploits of infamous Newtown Square resident John Eleuthère du Pont, who gunned down his assistant wrestling coach, David Schultz, in front of the former Olympian’s home on the sprawling property. The film wowed critics with its stark portrayal of the Schultz brothers’ dysfunctional relationship with du Pont.
Steve Carell’s uncanny representation of du Pont snagged him a much-deserved Best Actor nomination. And Mark Ruffalo picked up an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of David Schultz.

Bill Corso and Dennis Liddiard are up for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling—undoubtedly for the prosthetic nose that gave Carell the disturbingly distinct du Pont look. Director Bennett Miller was also nominated, as were screenwriters Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye.
