1. Rosalie.
The holidays are all about comfort food, so you have to taste the hearty gnocchi at Rosalie in Wayne. Chef Merick Devine makes the light-as-a-pillow potato bites from scratch. The punch of acid from the balsamic is so yummy, cutting through any heaviness from the cream sauce. 139 E. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, (610) 977-0600.
2. Bob Wark’s Liberty.
What’s cool about this tiny gas station and repair shop is the customer service. They give away free Jewish and regular calendars when you fill up. 300 Montgomery Ave., Merion Station, (610) 667-4737.
3. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Do you eat ice cream in the winter? I sure do. If you go, get caramel sauce on top. You’ll thank me later. 573 E. Lancaster Ave., Berwyn, (610) 640-1606.

4. Philadelphia Curling Club.
Ever watch this Winter Olympics sport? Here you can see curling in person— players rubbing the ice with a broom as the stone sails along. You get to watch all warm and cozy on the couch in the lounge. 65 Plank Ave., Paoli, (610) 285-8448.

5. Villanova University’s Department of Astrophysics and Planetary Science.
In the greenhouse, they’re mimicking the soil on Mars to see what grows best. (Turns out it’s leafy greens.) They also have a big telescope available for free on school nights. Seeing the rings of Saturn with your own eyes is truly astonishing. 800 Lancaster Ave., Villanova, (610) 519-4820.
