Four Main Line Holiday Events You Won’t Want to Miss

From Wayne to West Chester, these towns know how to celebrate the season.

It seems the holidays are upon us. And while we can’t make it snow, we can guarantee festive fun in our town centers. Come out to The Wayne Hotel’s Old Fashioned Christmas Dec. 1-2 for carriage rides, ornament decorating, face painting and carolers. Don’t miss the tree lighting or Santa’s Parade down Lancaster Avenue. He’ll also make a stop at the Wayne Hotel to get an earful of children’s wish lists.

Malvern’s Victorian Christmas finds its inspiration in the early to mid 19th century. Dec. 1-2, Victorian-era music provides the soundtrack as citizens wander about in period finery. Hop on a carriage, sip hot cocoa and stick around for the tree lighting.

Continue your journey backward at the Narberth Dickens Festival on Dec. 3. In what amounts to nothing less than a novel come to life, the town transforms itself into 1840s London. Expect the requisite carolers and carriage rides, plus run-ins with the likes of Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim.

For a more modern vibe, head to another historic downtown for the West Chester Christmas Parade on Dec. 1. It’s been a huge draw in years past, when upwards of 40,000 have come out to cheer on a huge lineup of marching bands, dancers, festive floats, live performers and more.
