These Famous Faces Attended Main Line Region Schools

Academy of Notre Dame De Namur

Lisa Raymond. The Norristown native and 1991 graduate went on to win 11 Grand Slam titles as a pro tennis player. She wasn’t on Notre Dame’s team, opting instead for the USTA circuit before attending the University of Florida, where she won two NCAA championships.

Tory Burch. Before she became a household name, the esteemed fashion designer and philanthropist walked the halls of AIS. She launched her brand in 2004, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania.

Archbishop John Carroll High School

Brad Ingelsby. The Berwyn native put Delaware County on the map with the hit HBO miniseries Mare of Easttown. The successful screenwriter and producer is currently working on a spinoff for HBO called Task.

Downingtown West High School

Sara Shepard. The author of the young-adult Pretty Little Liars series drew on her experience growing up around the Main Line area. The books were the inspiration for an award-winning teen drama series on the Freeform network.

M. Night Shyamalan. The Penn Valley-raised director, producer and screenwriter’s 20-plus movies have grossed over $3 billion globally. He’s always maintained his ties to our region and currently lives on a 218-acre estate in Chester County.

Bradley Cooper. The 12-time Oscar nominee grew up in Jenkintown and spent some time at Villanova University before transferring to Georgetown. He remains a huge Philly sports fan.

David Crane. The writer, producer and director is best known as the cocreator of the iconic Emmy-winning sitcom Friends.

Henderson High School

Chas McCormick. The Houston Astros outfielder helped the team defeat his hometown Phillies in the 2022 World Series.

Josh and Lori Shapiro. The current governor and first lady of Pennsylvania were high school sweethearts, meeting in ninth grade.

Jake Tapper. Catch him weekdays on CNN anchoring The Lead with Jake Tapper and Sunday mornings cohosting State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.

Aaron Krause. The founder and CEO of Scrub Daddy grew up in Wynnewood and also attended Haverford Friends School. Thanks to a Shark Tank appearance, his smiling sponge has become a staple in American households.

Kobe Bryant. The school’s gymnasium is named for the late superstar, who racked up five NBA championships, 18 All-Star selections, three MVP awards and two Olympic gold medals.

Billy Aronson. The playwright behind the classic musical Rent began acting in Bala Cynwyd Middle School and later became a member of the Lower Merion Players.

Abir Akhtar. He’s the Emmy-winning director behind the Netflix hit Never Have I Ever, which earned People’s Choice Awards in 2022 and 2024 for comedy show of the year.

Radnor High School

Jan Berenstain. The 1941 Radnor grad and her husband created the Berenstain Bears book series, which was adapted for TV in 1985.

Randal Kleiser. The 1964 graduate directed Grease. Loosely based on his high school years, the 1978 film was his first feature.

St. Joseph’s Preparatory School

Rob McElhenney. The creator of the hit comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia also starred in the show as Mac.

The Shipley School

Marshmello. Shipley alumni know this multiplatinum producer and DJ as Christopher Comstock, who performs under a marshmallow-like helmet that conceals his identity.

Valley Forge Military Academy

J.D. Salinger. You’ve likely read the Catcher in the Rye at some point, but did you know its author was a 1936 graduate of this Wayne institution? During his time at the school, Salinger wrote fiction for the literary magazine, edited the yearbook and wrote the poem that later became the school’s anthem.

Westtown School

Mo Bamba. The 7-foot former Philadelphia 76ers center averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks per game at Westtown. He’s now with the Los Angeles Clippers.
