10 Ways to Celebrate the 4th of July Locally

This six-day citywide festival includes 50 events like concerts, multiple fireworks shows, outdoor movie screenings, museum days and a parade, making it perfect for the whole family. The festivities are free to visitors, who also have a chance to win up-front concert tickets to see headliner Mary J. Blige or KIDZ BOP KIDS “Best Time Ever” Tour at the July 4th Party on the Parkway show. The fireworks finale at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is sure to draw a massive crowd.

Philadelphia Orchestra Free Neighborhood Concert Series and Fireworks • June 30

Now in its 10th year, the free Philadelphia Neighborhood Concert Series, held at RiverStage at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, has become a huge hit for Philadelphians and Main Liners alike. Following the orchestra’s celebratory performance, concertgoers can enjoy a vibrant fireworks show overlooking the Delaware River.

In it’s 26th year, Chester County hosts a family fun event in Nottingham County Park complete with festival-style foods, live music performances and fireworks.

Phoenixville Independence Day Celebration • July 4

With Phoenixville’s small town charm and easy accessibility, it makes for a perfect place for families to gather. Lounge along Friendship Park’s amphitheater to watch the free firework show at 9 p.m. and enjoy food vendors dishing up water ice, funnel cakes and more.

Norristown Fourth of July Parade and Festivities • July 4

Residents of Montgomery County can enjoy a day of riveting events in Norristown, beginning with a 5K at Norristown Area High School, followed by a parade. Later in the day there will be free outdoor concerts and a fireworks show in Elmwood Park.

A Garrett Hill tradition, now in its 68th year, this event features the 4th of July parade followed by a picnic with live music. See embellished bikes and floats, followed by the Bryn Mawr Rotary Club Races in Emlen Tunnell Park.

Upper Merion Parks and Recreation’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration • July 4

Enjoy a day filled with family, friends and fireworks as this annual celebration at Heuser Park. A carnival with rides, games, food and a new Rock Bottom Beer Garden are among the highlights. Following the carnival there will be live music by the Mango Men and fireworks at dusk.

Easttown Township 4th of July Family Picnic and Bike Parade • July 4

This free event is held at Johnson Park in Berwyn. Find cookout staples like hotdogs and hamburgers, a moon bounce and other games for the kids.

Marple Newtown Fourth of July Parade • July 4

At Marple Newtown’s Independence Day celebration in St. Alban’s Circle, visitors parade decorated bikes, strollers, wagons and floats in the parade, which begins on West Chester Pike and ends at the Broomall Fire.
