For 20 years, Anthony Gold thrived at Unisys. “I had great mentors and people who gave me the chance to excel on the technology and leadership sides,” says Gold, an electrical engineering major at Drexel University.
So why leave?
“I wasn’t waking up bouncing out of bed,” he admits now. “I always had the philosophy that if you don’t love what you do, you have to change the way you feel about what you’re doing or you have to change what you’re doing. I wanted to be passionate about what I was doing.”
Three years ago, the Wayne-based company Healthy Humans created a software platform to connect patients and their physicians, and Gold came aboard as CEO. “The board has an impressive group of business people, and the medical team has world-renowned doctors supporting it, including Dr. Oz,” says Gold. “I knew there was something significant that these physicians were doing.”
Specifically, it’s called integrative medicine. “Doctors basically look at not just the symptoms of the illness, but the whole physiology,” says Gold.
Healthy Humans is offering its software directly to physicians and to large hospital systems throughout the United States. The goal of the platform is to achieve better outcomes for patients, improve access to the healthcare system and make physicians’ jobs more satisfying. It’s a tall order, but Gold is wholeheartedly committed to making it happen. In his role as CEO, he’s responsible for business development and planning. “I’m not doing much engineering now,” he says.
Nonetheless, Gold loves what he’s doing. “At the core, I’m all about solving problems that people have,” he says.
And the healthcare system certainly has its share of problems—many of them solvable.
“I love meeting with physicians and CEOs, hearing the pain points they have, and brainstorming solutions for them,” says Gold.
