Dr. Ronald Lieberman brings Discseel, an innovative procedure that relieves back pain without the risk of surgery, to the Main Line.
Back pain is a reality for so many, but some of us arenāt able to find relief through simple stretches or a chiropractor visit. If surgery feels like a daunting option, Dr. Ronald Lieberman in Bala Cynwyd may have the answer youāve been searching for.
Dr. Lieberman is the first doctor in the Main Line region to offer DiscseelĀ®, a non-surgical pathway to back pain relief. āDiscseelĀ® is a medically proven alternative to spinal fusion and has the potential to greatly improve the quality of life for those suffering from chronic back pain,ā he explains. āThe most common cause of low back pain comes from a disc tear, [but] no surgical procedure can sew up a disc tear. DiscseelĀ® promotes the healing of these tears.ā
How does DiscseelĀ® work?
Dr. Lieberman describes DiscseelĀ® as āa four-step process performed on an outpatient basis with minimal recovery time.ā First, youāll visit Dr. Liebermanās Montgomery County office, Tristate Physical Medicine Associates, for a general consultation, where heāll review your symptoms and address any questions you may have about DiscseelĀ®. Next, youāll undergo a test called an annulogram, where contrast material is injected to identify subtle tears often missed by an MRI. Youāre now ready for the DiscseelĀ® procedure itself, which takes about 45 minutes. Under mild sedation, an X-ray camera is used to inject naturally derived Fibrin into damaged discs, sealing and promoting tissue growth. Following the procedure, youāll be able to walk with assistance after a short 30-minute rest. Within three to six months, youāll be ready to return to your normal activities, relieved of your back pain.
First performed back in 2004, DiscseelĀ® has been tested with over 7,000 procedures worldwide, and the results speak for themselves. Data shows a 70% improvement in pain and function for patients who did not find success with other methods of pain relief. Dr. Lieberman is the first Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation spine specialist, who has been on teaching faculty of the North American Spine Society, to introduce the procedure to the Mid-Atlantic region.
As the founder of Tristate Physical Medicine Associates in Bala Cynwyd, Dr. Lieberman brings over 25 years of experience to his practice, having received his training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University Hospital and his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also the author of Back Pain: How to Treat Lower Back Pain.
Oftentimes, patients experiencing back pain are told they simply have arthritis that they must learn to manage or are referred to a surgeon for a possible fusion. Through DiscseelĀ®, Dr. Lieberman hopes to improve functioning and well-being for his patients, offering them a higher quality of life without the risks of surgery.
