Clover Market founder Janet Gardner LongThis month, Clover Market, Ardmore’s wildly popular open-air shopping mecca, returns from its summer hiatus. Its founder, Janet Gardner Long, is a designer and partner at Elements Design, a full-service interior design firm also in Ardmore. “My designs have always included creating interesting juxtapositions—mixing old and new, rough and smooth, high and low,” says Long.

Which is why Clover Market has been such a passion for her. “I love giving people the resources to bring something that’s unique into their own homes in a really fun setting.”

Personal decorating style:
Clean and mostly classic—but in a fresh, updated way.

Favorite room in her home:
The renovated kitchen in our 1910 house. It’s designed to be sympathetic to the home’s original details, but completely modernized for how we live. It’s spacious and open, has tons of storage, incorporates many of my favorite materials, and is a great living and entertaining spot.

Most prized possessions:
A set of Victorian balloon-back chairs from my late grandmother, and an etching from a Georgia artist named Dale Rayburn—my first art purchase.

Designer who most inspires her:
Nate Berkus.

Design advice she loves to give:
Don’t leave art and accessories to the end, and then cut them due to budget or project fatigue. They complete the room and are a great opportunity to inject your personality into the overall scheme.

Color she couldn’t design without:
I love orange. I’m especially fond of the pumpkin-colored paint in my living room.

Favorite design trend of the moment:
I love the movement toward a more individual, layered, eclectic and collected style.

Favorite rooms to design:
Family rooms. I live in a very lively house with two boys, a puppy and a husband, and I know the challenge of putting something together that’s beautiful, livable and durable. It can be done!

Three words that sum up her designs:
Classic, simple, unfussy.
