Designer Q&A: M. Yurick Design's Michele Kelly

The Malvern designer’s passion is ensuring her clients’ design visions come to life in their home. Find out what Kelly thinks about dining rooms, built-ins and more.

During her more than 15 years as an interior designer for Malvern’s M. Yurick Design, Michele Kelly has taken on everything from office interiors to new homes. “My favorite projects are when my client has a passion for something and I can really personalize the design,” says Kelly.

Her style: “A combination of older architecture and furniture blended with the clean lines of current upholstered pieces, lots of different textures, finishes and solid blocks of color.”

Her definition of good taste: “A space that’s in proportion all around. No matter what your style, it needs to be cohesive and well balanced.”

Favorite room in her house: “Our dining room. We love to have our families over, so I created a look for the room that’s classic yet comfortable for us to hang out in.”

Most prized possessions in her home: “Pieces that have a sentiment attached—like the lovely crystal glasses and china given to us by our families, and the wine glasses given to me years ago from my grandparents.”

What inspires her: “The various textures and patterns found in fabrics, tile and stone materials, wall coverings, and furniture.”

Design advice: “Look beyond the current obstacles of the room you want to redecorate and create the ultimate wish list. You and your designer can determine what works within your budget and style.”

Elements she loves to incorporate into a space: “Built-ins are a favorite of mine; I enjoy custom designing them to meet my clients’ needs.”

Favorite design trend: “My love for the water makes adding coastal accents a favorite. Framed sea fans and shells make a space even more relaxing and refreshing. Floor-to-ceiling windows over-looking the water enhance a room.”

Best part of her job: “I love that no client is the same, and I welcome that individuality.”
