Every December, Petah Bashano and his team at Alvin’s Flowers in Broomall turn into busy elves. From Black Friday through Christmas week, the director of design at Alvin’s transforms area homes into holiday masterpieces—and we’re not just talking about lights. “The growing trend is that clients want their holiday decorations to match the décor in their house,” says Bashano. “We love matching the room and making the decorations look like they belong.”
These days, Bashano is using less traditional red and green, and more gold, champagne, blue and brown.
Ron and Jen Lohner recently added a new wing to their Malvern home, so they called in Bashano to work his holiday magic. He took everything—from curtains to furniture fabric—into consideration. Heirloom Delftware inspired the room’s interior design, and that, in turn, inspired Bashano, who decorated the Christmas tree with pheasant feathers, blue spiral glass spheres, crystals and long finials. “There’s even an ivory ball on the tree that matches the carpet perfectly,” he says. “They loved what we did so much that they left it up until March.”
For another client’s tree, Bashano complemented existing silver and white decorations with pieces in rose, lavender and sage green. “It changed the room’s entire look,” he says.
No matter what the décor, Bashano recommends one thing: Don’t overdo it. “It’s really about honing in on and knowing the right areas to work with—and showcasing them,” he says.
