When buying for her Wayne children’s boutique, Peanut Butter & Jane, Theresa Benincasa has one tried-and-true mandate: The clothes must elicit “oohs” and “ahhs” from her clients. “I love fashion,” says Benincasa. “So I thought, ‘Why not a kids clothing store?’”
Main Line moms have been buzzing about Peanut Butter & Jane since it opened last December. “I try to have a mix of more traditional, preppy Main Line looks, along with some outfits that are trendier and fun,” Benincasa says. “I think that combination of looks is really what is attracting customers.”
One side of the bright lime-green boutique is dedicated to “Peanut Butter” clothing for boys, and the other is everything “Jane” for the little ladies, with sizes infant through six. For the girls, there are colorful Lola et Moi sundresses, and hip dresses and skirts from Trelise Cooper Kids (Julia Roberts bought Trelise Cooper’s entire summer line for her twins). Any girl who loves to play dress-up will fall for the Fabby Gabby Froo Froos (pictured)—extra-full tutus made of super-soft tulle in bright pinks and greens.
The Peanut Butter side is more refined, with preppy Nantucket red pants by Wes & Willy, checkered shorts and polo shirts from Barbour, and T-shirts emblazoned with “Happy Camper” and “My Dad Plays Fantasy Football.”
Benincasa also carries the Lotus Springs line of organic clothing, which combines milk, bamboo, soy and corn with fine natural fibers.
