Big Sips, Small Bites: Fruit Beers and Turducken

Sly Fox Brewing Company’s Black Raspberry Reserve and Bordley House Grille’s poultry phenomenon add a little extra cheer to the holidays.

The Sip

Caged and corked, Sly Fox Brewing Company’s Black Raspberry Reserve gives fruit beers some credibility. Tart and packing a blunt, carbonated bite, this deep-ruby, medium-bodied beauty stands tall against its spicy fall contenders and fares well with red wine drinkers. $12.50. 520 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville; (610) 935-4540, slyfoxbeer.com.

The Bite

Bordley House Grille chef Jamie Nafe sees the humor in his Turducken—sort of like beer-can chicken. Fresh for fall, he’s downsized his duck-in-turkey creation. Foie gras is sandwiched between layers of duck, chicken and turkey breast, and wrapped in a succulent turkey skin. It’s served with more silky foie gras, nestled in a puree of butternut squash and topped with cranberry compote and a maple-syrup reduction. $14. 1520 Tattersall Way, West Chester; (610) 738-4410, broadrungc.com.
