It was an event I was looking forward to for weeks. Once I received the invitation to the grand opening of Tory Burch’s King of Prussia boutique, I put the date and time into my Blackberry as an absolutely, positively, not-to-be-missed event. June 8 was the big night, and I expected—as I pulled up to the valet in front of Lord & Taylor—that I was in for a fabulous party.
And Tory certainly didn’t disappoint. As I came up the escalator leading to the boutique, the music pumping from the DJ brought a spirited energy to the mall that’s normally not experienced on a midweek night. The DJ was set up outside the boutique, along with a bar and various tables where chicly dressed women were congregating. A New York-famed caterer and Main Liner, Peter Callahan (his wife, Josephine Sasso, was also in attendance) did an outstanding job with a simple presentation of butlered hors d’oeuvres (hamburger sliders, pigs in a blanket and others). Easily, the most impressive touch were the miniature Patrone bottles filled with margaritas and small straws.
Mini-Patrone bottle in hand, my friend Lauren and I made our way through the crowd of hundreds of Tory’s “closest” friends, all packed into the boutique. If you haven’t visited Tory’s latest venture, do it. Soon. The boutique is absolutely gorgeous. You feel like you’re entering an Upper East Side apartment with its crystal chandeliers, plush couches, gold accents and spectacular flower arrangements on glass tables. And, of course, Tory’s most coveted clothing and accessories are meticulously displayed throughout.
Tory, and her mother, Reva, who inspired the name of Tory’s popular flats, along with various other family members were in attendance. Tory, a Valley Forge native, looks as flawless in person as she does splashed across a fashion magazine spread. She was wearing the Marsha dress from her collection, with towering heels that I’m also sure were a product of her ingenious brand.
We had the opportunity to get a photo with Tory, and she couldn’t have been more gracious. It was amazing to be in the presence of a woman who’s an international name in the fashion industry and is every bit a celebrity in her own right.
Just when I thought the evening couldn’t get better, it did. Although it wasn’t advertised, Tory was offering 40 percent off everything in her store that evening. And all of the Main Line women in attendance were taking full advantage, snatching up totes, clutches, sandals and tunics. Yours truly treated herself to a pair of sandals and a zip-around wallet.
Thank you, Tory, for the invite. It definitely was a party that I’m glad I didn’t miss.
