Marissa Small, a local fashionista, jewelry designer and owner of Mina Danielle Jewelry in Bryn Mawr gives expert advice on fashion.
HER STYLE: Traditional with an edge.
FASHION AWAKENING: Early in my childhood, I started experimenting with fashion by sneaking into my mother’s and sisters’ wardrobes, layering myself in all their fabulous accessories. I fell in love and quickly began to make my own fashion.
WHAT CAPTIVATED HER ABOUT JEWELRY: My mother, a classically trained artist, began designing jewelry, and I immediately felt a connection to it. This led me to create my signature necklace, which is now my top-selling creation.
INDISPENSABLE WARDROBE ITEM: My vintage Gucci messenger bag, which contains anything and everything I may ever need.
FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: I love supporting local boutiques on the Main Line. I can’t pick just one because there are so many wonderful shops and I don’t want to leave anyone out.
FASHION ICON: My mother and dear friend, Nancy Amoroso.
BEST FASHION BUY: Classic vintage Chanel jacket from a flea market in Santa Monica, Calif.
THOUGHTS ON AGING: Bring it! I like to think that every year brings me more knowledge, experience and perspective. I also feel that less is more— embrace your natural beauty. As my great-grandmother always said, “A little powder and paint make you what you ain’t.”
INDISPENSABLE ACCESSORY: Mina Danielle Signature Necklace. It’s a South Sea pearl and pave diamond bead on hand-rolled leather, which happens to work for everyone no matter what their style is.
MAKEUP TIP EVERY WOMEN CAN APPRECIATE: A little highlighter and concealer go a long way.
FAVORITE FRAGRANCE: Creed Aventus.
FASHION NO-NO: Heels you can’t walk in.
WHY FASHION MATTERS: Because everyone can express their own sense of style without limitations. Embrace fashion for your body type and personality. If it looks and feels good on you, then it gives you confidence— which is the most important fashion accessory you can have.
