Joy to the (Fashion) World

As promised, MLT’s shopping guru delivers part two of her fall-fashion event roundup.

25 Years of Style

Congratulations to the Main Line’s ultimate fashionista, Deborah VanCleve, who’s celebrating the momentous 25th anniversary of her boutique, VanCleve Collection. Generations of Main Line ladies have relied on VanCleve for her impeccable inventory of “the perfect ensemble” for every occasion, from cocktail parties and the Academy Ball to senior prom and the mother of the bride’s moment in the spotlight. In honor of her silver anniversary, VanCleve is hosting a fundraiser at her Paoli boutique on Nov. 4, with a portion of the sales benefiting Peter’s Place, a center for grieving children and families in Radnor.

The all-day celebration includes a trunk show of fabulous fashions from designer Teri Jon and kicks off with a special tea from 1 to 4 p.m., followed by an after-work cocktail reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Participating sponsors include Cupcakes Gourmet, Cottage Flowers, Drexelbrook Catering, Laura Eaton Wedding Photography, Stationary & Design Customs by Nicole, Leslie Padilla Public Relations and Voila Invitations.

A Toast to Fashion

First Financial Group of Bala Cynwyd is sponsoring a Champagne Tea and Fashion Show in support of the Montgomery County Special Olympics and Devereux Centers on Nov. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Plymouth Country Club. Young women, ages 7 to 20, with special needs will hit the runway, modeling fashions generously donated by Macy’s.

“This event will allow the girls to ‘shine’ and be in the spotlight, have fun, and gain confidence,” says event coordinator Linda Mullen, owner of the Doncaster Agency, a specialty boutique of beautiful clothes for women. “As a mom with a special-needs daughter, I have found that we are faced with different challenges in personal hygiene, dressing and grooming for our children. Blessed with my talent as a wardrobe and image stylist, I wanted to share that skill, offer solutions, and build confidence for both the moms and their daughters.”

Mullen and two friends started Special Care/Special Kids, the nonprofit organization that is producing this event, which includes a silent auction. “I have wanted to raise money for Special Olympics of Montgomery County, as they do not charge the athletes,” Mullen says. “And they need the funds to continue running the many sports venues for the athletes.”

$30/adults, $20/children. 888 Plymouth Road, Plymouth Meeting. For ticket information, contact Linda Mullen at (610) 941-3394 or linda.mullen@verizon.net.
