Well before going green became chic, Noel Cianci proved you don’t have to sacrifice style for practicality with her eco-conscious Gypsystyle collection. The bags come in an array of sizes, striped color combinations and styles—from wristlet pouches to overnight bags. Lightweight and water resistant, the durable fabric is made of 100-percent post-consumer recycled plastic from bottles and wrappers.
Gypsystyle launched in 2004 with a simple tote that shoppers could use as an alternative to plastic bags or the reusable ones sold at supermarket chains. “My intention was to shift awareness from the use of plastic bags to stylish, reusable bags,” says Cianci, a Merion Mercy Academy graduate who recently moved back to her Conshohocken hometown from California. “Simple steps like bringing your own bags to the grocery store are an easy, eco-friendly way to make a difference.”
The totes became so popular that Cianci, a former celebrity stylist to stars like Sting and Jennifer Lopez, decided to expand the line, offering beach bags, yoga slings and more. The Weekender can hold enough clothes and accessories for an impromptu getaway, while the Gypsy Tote is perfect for everyday essentials.
Certain styles can be found at Verge Yoga in Wayne and Adriana’s Caravan at Ardmore Farmers Market. The entire collection is available online. Visit Gypsystyle.com.
