Newtown Square’s Hillary Berenato Talks Fashion

The Delaware County healthcare leader and content creator dishes on her stylish favorites.

Her style: Edgy, sexy, feminine, classic, accessible. If I like it, I wear it.

Fashion roots: I’ve always loved clothes and makeup, but after having my second child, I felt a pull to spend time on myself. I knew it would boost my mood. I started documenting my outfits and favorite makeup items and sharing them through a blog, Gardenia Avenue. I’ve created some amazing friendships through it.

Indispensable wardrobe item: My jeans collection. I love the different washes, cuts and styles. I recently scored a pair of vintage Levi’s from Vinny’s Denim in West Chester.

Favorite places to shop: Malena’s Vintage Boutique in West Chester for vintage finds and the Blue Béret in Wayne for anything kid-related.

Fashion icons: Sophia Loren, Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe—old-school bombshells.

Best buy ever: A vintage fur coat at Penny Wise Thrift Shop in Ardmore.

Thoughts on aging: The older I get, the more I take care of myself. I’m just getting to my best self—with the help of a great skincare routine.

Indispensable accessory: Confidence—and a stack of necklaces and bracelets. Sometimes, more is more.

Favorite fragrances: Emporio Armani and Missing Person by Phlur.

Fashion no-no: I find items that have no shape boring. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Why fashion is important: Fashion can represent so many versions of yourself. The dressdown days when you stay in leggings all day make the dress-up days when you’re in a black-tie gown feel so much better. One of my favorite quotes is, “I’m a million different people from one day to the next,” from “Bitter Sweet Symphony” by the Verve. If you’re a mom/wife/daughter/ friend/woman, you get it.
