G. Marie Vintage Founder Gina Tomassone Dishes on Her Statement Style

The Phoenixville-based clothing line founder talks all about her fashionable roots and closet essentials.

Her Style: I love the mix of feminine and masculine—a ruffled chiffon blouse with an oversized menswear blazer. Most of my wardrobe is vintage, and I love making outfits out of different proportions and shapes. I have a slight western vibe and wear vintage cowboy boots with almost anything. The ’60s and ’70s are a huge inspiration to me. I joke that I was born in the wrong era.

Fashion roots: I’ve been advising people what to wear and creating looks since I was a child. I also started sewing at a very young age and loved that I could create pieces myself that mimicked what I saw in magazines or advertisements. I quickly realized that fashion inspired me like nothing else. It ignited a fire inside of me, and I wanted to be involved in any way possible. My clothing line, G. Marie Vintage, is sold at Shoppe Lieu in Kennett Square.

Indispensable wardrobe item: Vintage oversized blazers.

Fashion career: I had my first fashion retail job in high school. I went to school for fashion-industry management and did an internship at QVC. After I graduated, I pursued my dream and opened a clothing store in Laguna Beach, California, called G. Marie Boutique.

Fashion icon: Hailey Bieber. I love her use of oversized pieces—and she just knows how to look effortlessly cool.

Best buy ever: A black vintage Chanel skirt suit from the ’90s that fits perfectly and will never go out of style.

Thoughts on aging: I feel more confident in my 30s than I did in my 20s, and I think that confidence will just keep growing. Age comes with so much wisdom and growth from life experiences, which inevitably makes you more comfortable with who you are.

Indispensable accessory: Belts, belts and more belts. As a stylist, my clients always laughed because they knew, “Let’s try a belt with it,” was the next sentence out of my mouth.

Makeup tip every woman can appreciate: Taking care of your skin is very important. Wear sunscreen.

Fashion no-no: Cropped leggings.

Why fashion matters: It’s the look on my clients’ faces when I get to make them feel good. Fashion is an expression of who you are, and you can have so much fun with it. There’s nothing better than feeling confident when you love what you’re wearing—and I get to make this happen for people.
