Wonder-ful World
On yet another frenzied Black Friday at King of Prussia Mall, Chris Burch introduced Pennsylvanians to C. Wonder, a lifestyle brand that, until now, has been a bit of a mystery to most shoppers outside New York City. The new KOP store is outfitted with C. Wonder’s signature bright-green logo and accented with colorful apparel, purses, jewelry, shoes and more. Company brass aptly describes the vibe “as a grownup playground of sorts—full of whimsy, bold shades and luxe items.” l As for the former Mr. Tory Burch, he’s best known locally for his preppy-chic Eagle’s Eye clothing line, which he started in the late ’70s here in Wayne with his brother, Bob. Burch also played a prominent role in helping his ex-wife launch her eponymous clothing empire in 2004, and she hasn’t been shy about letting the world know that she isn’t thrilled about C. Wonder’s similarities to her brand. Divorced since 2006, the two are now embroiled in a lawsuit initiated by Chris alleging interference with his business operations.
Tory would be less irked if C. Wonder hadn’t positioned itself to lure younger, less moneyed shoppers—thereby threatening a portion of her customer base. Still, while the average C. Wonder item is less than $50, there are plenty of more expensive options. Even budget-minded luxury comes at a price. Visit cwonder.com.
