If it’s authentic you desire, it’s authentic you’ll get at Bangles Indian Cuisine, where you can taste your way through an upscale menu in a comfortable yet elegant setting tucked away in Downingtown’s Ashbridge Plaza. Its complex dishes come by way of ayurvedic (“science of life”) cooking techniques that showcase holistic ingredients and varied spices—all immersed in the enticing aromas and deep flavors of northern and southern India.
Don’t like it hot? Bangles’ exceptional waitstaff will direct you to milder choices. Just keep in mind that “authentic” here means spice levels enjoyed in India. The brave and curious must try the rasam soup, a lip-tingling, sinus-clearing broth of tomatoes, peppercorn, garlic, cumin, tamarind and lentils.
And if you think you’ve had dosa, think again. Bangles’ nutty, plate-busting crêpe is filled with mashed potatoes, onions, mustard, turmeric and cashews, and served with coconut and tomato chutneys.
Also be sure to indulge in the aromatic tandoor dishes cooked in a clay oven, along with a bevy of biryanis. And save room for entrées like lamb pepper fry, goat sukha, saag chicken, or one of the vegetarian options.
Bring your own bottle, or sip a freshly made Madras coffee, masala chai or mango lassi. Kids of all ages will devour the Nutella-banana-and-coconut dosa—one of Bangles’ many tempting sweets.
