PERSONAL STYLE: Simple and inspired by natural materials.

FASHION ROOTS: I’ve always been interested in functional fashion. Even as a kid, I didn’t understand why someone would want to worry about fashion or be uncomfortable. Women deserve to have high-quality pieces designed for them, to make their days easier and more meaningful. I became an industrial designer because I wanted to design furniture. I quickly learned that I could build handbags just like furniture and turn my love for textiles into wearable items.

INDISPENSABLE WARDROBE ITEM: My Dubarry field boots. I feel like I can do anything when I wear them.

FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: Art shows and farmers’ markets, especially Chadds Ford Barn Shops and worKS in Kennett Square. I can buy things my friends make, plus make new friends.

FASHION ICON: My mother, who never followed a trend and always had an eye for handcrafted classics.

BEST BUY EVER: An antique L.L.Bean canvas boat tote that I cleaned up and hand-painted.

THOUGHTS ON AGING: Each year gets better. I’m grateful to be here.

INDISPENSABLE ACCESSORY: My Arden tote is like a bucket for me, holding everything I need for myself, my two kids and work. It’s super strong and gets better with age—just like I want to be.

BEAUTY TIP EVERY WOMAN CAN APPRECIATE: Wear sunscreen and drink lots of water.

FASHION NO-NO: Junky fabrics and hardware. Choose fewer, better things that will last a lifetime and save money in the long run.

WHY FASHION MATTERS: We all need an artistic outlet, and fashion can be that—a way to express your true self. Do what you feel, and you’ll inspire others.
