Alexandra Frazier created Women Golfers Give Back (WGGB) to focus on sharing the sport of golfing with women around the Main Line region.
Recognizing the lack of opportunity for females in the golf world, Alexandra Frazier joined forces with a group of fellow players to create Women Golfers Give Back, a program that focuses on sharing the sport with girls ages 7 and up. WGGB celebrates its 20th anniversary next year.
MLT: What programs do you offer for girls and women looking to play golf?
AF: We fund 13 golf programs that start young girls on the path of learning the game. From there, girls interested in playing competitively are mentored by a female pro with the goal of receiving a college scholarship. Through our Get Golf Ready program, we invite working women to teach both the sport and proper golf course etiquette so girls can confidently play in company outings and utilize the game for networking and other business opportunities.
MLT: Why golf?
AF: It teaches life skills that help girls as they pursue careers one day. Professional men get to network and grow their businesses on the golf course, so why shouldn’t women be able to do the same? We hope to enrich girls’ lives through our programs by setting them up for success both personally and professionally. Golf presents an incredible opportunity to build your character and learn so many life lessons. Through the sport, girls gain an understanding of how to manage their temperament, their attitude and their outlook. It’s also so important to learn what you can and can’t control. You can’t control the weather or the speed of the greens, but you can control how you choose to approach your shots and the decisions you make on the course. This directly translates to life.
MLT: What do you hope girls take away from WGGB?
AF: We hope they take the skills and life lessons learned from the program and continue to play golf well into adulthood. We also hope they learn to give back to their communities. We love seeing girls return to the program as a mentor to pass on what they learned to the next generation.
