About the National Steeplechase Association

In the United States, the sport of steeplechasing dates back to 1860 and the Rose Tree Hunt, embraced by the foxhunting set on Philadelphia’s Main Line. Soon, races were up and running in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

The National Steeplechase Foundation was founded in 1995 to safeguard that tradition. Based in Fair Hill, Md., the 501(c)(3) corporation is dedicated to promoting safety, education, fairness and amateurism in the sport. Its overarching mission is to preserve the sport in the 21st century for generations to come.

As the official sanctioning body of U.S. steeplechase racing, the NSA licenses participants, approves race courses, trains officials, coordinates race entries, enforces rules, compiles an official database, and oversees the national marketing and public relations of the sport.
