This Mid-Century Modern Home in Wynnewood Features Stunning Designs

Now on the market, this lovingly redesigned mid-century modern home is full of natural light and bursting with color.

Scott and Keri Berger had a vision for this Wynnewood home the first time they walked into it. Most of the walls were shades of beige, and the interior was much the same as it had been for nearly 60 years upon their 2018 purchase, though it wouldn’t stay that way for long.

The Bergers wanted to bring color and a highly modern sense of interior design to their new home. Real estate agents themselves, the pair spend their days touring houses and observing unique styles. For their first home on the Main Line, they would bring all those years of experience to bear.

First, the couple changed much of the lighting. Above the living room were enormous hanging chandeliers. In their place, they installed Sputnik fixtures, providing a warm glow in addition to natural light that flows in from the dining room bay windows and flats in the living room.

The Bergers brought in furniture from vintage collectors, as well as outlets like CB2 and UrbanBurb in Manayunk, all of it brightly colored in shades of orange and blue with white walls reflecting light from the windows.

The centerpiece of the living room is the vintage conical fireplace. Though it’s just a display piece, unhooked to either chimney, gas or electrical line, the hearty red glow it provides in winter warms up the room nevertheless.

The open floor plan means the living room flows into both the kitchen and dining room. The former is exceptionally modern, containing several hidden drawers to store all your extra spices and a space-age microwave built into the counter.

To the right, the kitchen opens up into the dining room. Bathed in a dark ocean blue, the room features mirrors that line the far wall above an old church bench found at a salvage store, lovingly restored and now used for table seating. The idea was to make the dining room feel like a champagne bar or martini lounge from a travel show. The Bergers both say the space has been great for parties and small gatherings.

Downstairs is a laundry room and two-car garage in addition to a cozy basement gaming room. There’s a gas fireplace down here and two leather sofas, perfect for movie nights, as well as enough space for a ping pong or pool table. Glass doors open up onto a spacious lawn of nearly an acre, where a creek runs through the backyard. Additionally, the kitchen opens out onto a stone patio flanked by bushes, perfect for dining during warm summer evenings.
