Volstead by Unity, the Main Line region’s first zero-proof bar and fully vegan restaurant, thrives in Manayunk; plus other Main Line additions.
Robert and Arielle Ashford are all about second chances. Both in recovery themselves, they’ve made it their mission to gainfully employ recovering addicts, as well as those who’ve been incarcerated, at their Unity Yoga and Unity Taqueria locations in Manayunk. Now they’ve added Volstead by Unity, which they’re calling Philly’s first zero-proof bar and fully vegan restaurant.
The moody first-floor bar is perfect for sipping mocktails like the Smokey Margarita (zero-proof mezcal with agave and citrus juices) and Sprezzatura Negroni (zero-proof gin with orange bitters, Apéritif Rosso and grapefruit juice). Non-alcoholic beer and 0.5% wines are also available.
Plant-based bar bites include chef Frederick Morris’ spicy “boneless wings” and vegetable tempura. The gluten-free rice-flour flatbread layers pesto and “sausage” atop a crispy crust. Among the entrée highlights: a four-ounce plant-based, marbled “filet mignon” pan-seared and topped with black garlic mushroom sauce, zucchini fettuccini tossed with spicy almond-kale pesto and cherry tomatoes, and “scallops” with sweet-potato risotto. 4371 Main St. Manayunk, (267) 437-3194, volsteadzeroproof.com
MORE NIBBLES: Marc Vetri and Jeff Benjamin are bringing an elevated sizzle to Bryn Mawr with Fiore Rosso. The former Enoteca Tredici is now an Italian-themed steakhouse with a cool open-floor concept.
CookNSolo Restaurants alum Henry Morgan is now serving breakfast and lunch at his HOMEROOM cafe in Gladwyne. Try the avocado toast and the roast chicken sandwich punctuated by Za’atar spices.
Cafe by day, cocktail bar by night, Ardmore’s Char & Stave is the handiwork of Bluebird Distilling’s Jared Adkins. Whether it’s a pour-over or an Old Fashioned you crave, this chic spot has it all.
