Zagafen Brings Delectable Kosher Dishes to Merion Station

David Magerman’s second restaurant is both chic and homey.

Filling culinary voids has become David Magerman’s knack of late. The computer whiz and philanthropist behind Merion Station’s popular Citron & Rose Tavern & Market now has a new culinary venture worth crowing about. Zagafen has a decidedly different vibe than its older sibling, which is known for its kosher meats, sushi and pasta served in a refined setting. Zagafen’s soothing white-washed, brick-lined space is homey by day and chic after dusk.

A Del Frisco’s Steakhouse alum, chef Christopher Allen produces sublime fish dishes like Scottish salmon pan-seared with coconut lemongrass, and Pacific striped bass blanketed in a delicate mushroom ragout. Pasta selections include saffron rigatoni and cavatelli sardi with fresh thyme, and the delectable grilled pizzas are (like everything else) prepared under strict kosher guidelines.

Open Sunday-Thursday, Zagafen also has a full bar. All in all, it’s an impressive second act.
