Xilantro in Wayne has thought up a great way to draw a substantial lunchtime crowd: offer a $9.99 prix-fixe special. Diners get their choice of soup or salad and an entrée. Some options include corn chowder or creamy black bean soup; Caesar, house or the special “Xilantro” salad; and a burrito, enchilada, flauta, pepito (grilled steak sandwich), or memelita (handmade corn-dough tortilla with beans, veggies, hot sauce, cheese and your choice of chicken, beef or strictly veg).
If you’re in the Kennett Square area, stop by Portabello’s on West State Street to try the new gluten-free menu (or the regular menu). Open for lunch and dinner, Portabello’s is working with local businesses to provide some of the gluten-free items, which include breads, soups, sandwiches, pasta and desserts. I’ve heard the baked goods from Sweet Christine’s Bakery are so tasty that you wouldn’t even know they are gluten free.
