Whole Foods to Open in Newtown Square on Jan. 18

After years of anticipation and delays, the grocery store will open its doors. Here’s what you can expect.

The Whole Foods Market in Newtown Square is finally opening.

After over several years of construction and delays, and much anticipation from the surrounding community, the 51,000 square-foot market, located in the Ellis Preserve shopping center, will open its doors to the public on Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. This marks the 14th Whole Foods to open in the greater Philadelphia area.

Like most Whole Foods, the Newtown Square location will feature an expansive selection of natural and organic products, including a large produce section, deli, cheese department and prepared foods section, as well as a wide variety of health and wellness products. In addition, the grocery store will also offer free Wi-Fi and self-serve pressed juice and an açai bowl station.

The store is stocking over 400 types of wine and over 350 varieties of beer, including selections from local breweries like Sterling Pig Brewery, 2SP Brewing and Conshohocken Brewing Company. It will also include an in-store restaurant, Darby Creek Café, which will offer 12 local beers on tap, cocktails and pub fare.

Also look for hats, T-shirts and mugs from tongue-in-cheek brand South Fellini, the Philadelphia-themed novelty company behind the popular Wawa Jawn shirts and Philly Special beanies.

Following its grand opening, Whole Foods Market Newtown Square and Darby Creek Café will both be open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
