Wayne’s Black Powder Tavern Preps for a Mid-October Debut

This gastropub concept is invading the former home of Winberie’s along Valley Forge Road, anticipated to debut as early as mid-October.

Select Restaurants Inc. is rehabbing the historic former home of Winberie’s, positioned on Valley Forge Road in Wayne (near Chesterbrook), for the area’s newest gastropub concept under the moniker Black Powder Tavern.

The revamp masters will officially fling open the doors of the new American fare and craft beer-focused restaurant as of Oct. 17, and the old world tavern-esque space will feature 24 rotating, premium taps and an unpretentious food menu with options like smoked trout deviled eggs, pork wings with hoisin shandong sauce, prime beef burgers and polenta fries.

With Chicago’s Eastman Design heading up the stylistic remodeling, and the fresh interior harking back to the triumphant history of Valley Forge, guests can expect warm touches like wide plank, resawn oak flooring, Revolutionary kitsch, period sconces, and even a framed copy of the Declaration of Independence.

Private dining options will be available, with the Mad Anthony Wayne Room seating 50 guests and the Washington’s Quarters (on the second floor) seating 36.

“We are really looking forward to opening,” shared Carl Davies, Black Powder Tavern’s general manager. “It’s been a long time coming and we are so excited.” Gary Summers will join Davies as the restaurant’s culinary manager.

To elevate the Black Powder experience, Davies and Summers will stock a flavor of Franklin Fountain ice cream daily, spotlight two signature cocktails concocted by local distillers (Philadelphia Distilling products included), host a killer weekday happy hour, and so much more.

Hours of operation will be: Lunch available from Monday–Saturday, 11:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Dinner served Monday–Thursday, 4–11 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 4 p.m.–midnight; Sunday, 2–11 p.m. Brunch will be served on Sunday, 10:30 a.m.–2 p.m.
